Maruti Suzuki Alto sales cross 38 lakh in 15 years

For years, Maruti Suzuki has dominated the entry-level hatchback segment with their Alto, and this small car has now achieved yet another milestone. In its 15 year journey, Maruti Suzuki has sold 38 lakh units of the Alto compact hatchback which has even seen generation changes. The Alto as of now rivals the likes of Renault Kiwd, Datsun redi-GO, etc. The brand claims that almost 54% of their Alto customers are first time car buyers, and trust the Alto for a no nonsense ownership. The Alto is zippy to drive, fuel efficient and now meets the basic safety standards as well and has already transitioned to BSVI compliance.

The Alto was the first Maruti Suzuki car to move to BSVI standards, showing how important the car is even for the brand. With this upgraded engine, the hatchback delivers 22.05 kmpl of mileage and it also received a mild update in 2019 to look fresh amidst increasing competition.

As of now, the Alto comes with a driver airbag as standard and an optional front passenger airbag. Other standard safety features for this little hatchback include ABS, EBD, reverse sensors, speed alert system, seat belt reminder for both front users and it also meets the new crash test and pedestrian safety requirements.

Maruti Suzuki also retails the Alto with a CNG bi-fuel kit.

The Alto is quite a small wonder. Not a fancy hatchback in any way, but it is surprising to see the Alto zip through the lanes where high-ground clearance SUVs dominate the ways. In hilly areas as well, the Maruti Suzuki Alto proves to be a reliable workhorse and is also trusted by the fleet operators. The journet of the Maruti Suzuki Alto since its introduction in the year 2000 is listed below.

In other news, Maruti Suzuki plans to phase out all diesel powered cars when the BSVI deadlines kick in. At least for a year, the brand might focus on CNG kits over diesel and test waters if at all there is enough demand for diesel engines across their product portfolio.
