Maruti plans to cut waiting period for AMT models

Maruti Suzuki is working with supplier, Magneti Marelli to increase production of the AMT kits from the current 3,500 units to 5,000 units. Maruti already had the Celerio mated to an AMT gearbox which was a hit in the Indian market, and now, the Alto K10 also comes with this convenience option and is also the cheapest automatic available in the country.

Maruti wants their supplier to increase production so that with limited kits, they do not want customers of either of the two models waiting due to short supply. In the begenning, the Celerio AMT had a waiting period of 7-8 months. With the Alto K10, the popularity of the AMT is bound to increase with newbie drivers opting for the conveniencce of an automatic instead of a manual gearbox.

Maruti is optimistic that once Magneti Marelli sets up their production facility at Manesar, there will be no delay or shortage in supply.
