Maruti Celerio ZDi diesel variant spied

Images of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio in its diesel avatar have surfaced on the internet. The images doing the rounds are of the top of the line ZDi trim level of the Celerio hatchback.

The diesel engine supposed to power the Celerio is a new, in-house engine by Maruti. It will be a 793cc block which would be the smallest diesel engine in the class. Currently, the Chevrolet Beat with its 1.0L unit is the smallest diesel engine on sale. The same diesel engine is also expected to power the Maruti Y9T LCV. Power on tap is expected to be around 50 BHP.

What would be interesting to note is the amount of NVH levels Maruti would manage with this two-cylinder block. Thee-cylinder engines take some time getting used to, when it comes to the NVH levels, so what the whole picture would be with Maruti’s two-cylinder, only time will tell. Fuel efficiency figures are rumoured to be around 30 kmpl. The car will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, however, if Maruti could manage an AMT with the diesel engine, the Celerio diesel AMT will be the cheapest and only diesel automatic hatchback in the country.

Trim levels on offer would be similar to other Maruti products. LDi, VDi and ZDi variants are expected to be offered. Reports suggest that the car could be launched during the festive season.
