Maruti Alto K10 safety and price hike update details

The latest update for the Alto K10 has brought additional safety features to the entry-level hatchback. Maruti has added 4 more airbags as standard to the car, making it equipped with 6 airbags as standard now.

Also, the prices have been hiked with more airbags. The new prices are as follows:

Variant New Price Price Hike
Standard Rs 4.23 lakh Rs 14,000
LXI Rs 5.00 lakh Rs 6,000
VXI Rs 5.31 lakh Rs 16,000
VXI+ Rs 5.60 lakh Rs 10,000
VXI AMT Rs 5.81 lakh Rs 16,000
LXI CNG Rs 5.90 lakh Rs 6,000
VXI+ AMT Rs 6.10 lakh Rs 10,000
VXI CNG Rs 6.21 lakh Rs 16,000

All the prices mentioned here are ex-showroom, India.

Also, if you look closely, Maruti has smartly hiked the prices. The Alto K10 is dangerously close to the Celerio and Wagon R category buyers. Hence, its sales have been on the lower side, except for the few variants that are doing well. Hence, the highest price hike is seen on these variants.

Apart from the 6 airbags, the Alto K10 is equipped with ABS, EBD, and 3-point seatbelts as standard for passenger safety. The new K10 is also equipped with a digital console and touchscreen infotainment that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Powering the K10 is the ultra-reliable and efficient 999cc, three-cylinder engine that generates 67 bhp of peak power. It is also offered with a CNG powertrain, which accumulates the majority of its sales.

In addition to the price revision and airbag addition, Maruti has revised the naming of the variants by removing the (O) suffix. The primary rival to the K10 is the Renault Kwid.

Our verdict

The Alto K10 has been one of the bestsellers in the country for more than a decade. However, with time, the focus of customers has shifted towards the SUV body style, thus leaving the sales of the Alto K10 towards the moderate side. With the addition of new safety features, Maruti plans to attract more customers for the K10.
