Mahindra and Mahindra have recently revealed four BS-VI ready petrol engines and the brand has announced the launch of these engines around September 2019. Now according to a new report, the carmaker will be expanding its petrol portfolio with a new larger displacement 2.0-litre petrol engine.
The new 2.0-litre petrol engine will help Mahindra strengthen its position among the competitors. Like the other 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre T-GDI engines the new 2.0-litre engine is also expected to be turbocharged and have a high-pressure direct-injection system. The new engine is also expected to be an all-aluminium unit to keep the weight low and the power output is estimated to be around the 185 HP mark.
While the 1.2-litre T-GDI system is speculated to use a 250bar high-pressure direct injection unit which delivers around 130 HP of power and in the 1.5-litre T-GDI engine is likely to be rated around 163 HP of power. The new 2.0-litre engine could use a 350 bar system which will give it improved performance, refinement and endurance. This new 2.0L turbo-petrol engine could be used in the next-generation XUV500 & Scorpio SUVs. Also, this engine could be shared with Ford on their upcoming cars for India and export markets.
Mahindra is known for its diesel engines and has been fairly new in the petrol engine department, but the Mahindra XUV300 petrol has been quite popular in the Indian market and accounts for 29% of the total sales in March this year.
