Mahindra trademarks XUV400, is this a bigger XUV300?

The Mahindra XUV400 patent has been registered at the Indian Intellectual Property office. This leads us to believe that a new SUV positioned between the XUV300 and XUV500 will be coming soon. Speculations are that the new SUV will be a larger 7-seater iteration of the XUV300.

The Korean Connection

The Mahindra XUV300 is based on the Ssangyong Tivoli platform. But the sub-4-metre rule saves taxes and helps position the car competitively in the market. This led Mahindra to shorten the XUV300 when the compact SUV made its debut in India. However, looking at the 7-seater SUV wave that brand is likely to revamp the rear end of the vehicle as well as the interiors. While both share the underpinnings the Ssangyong Tivoli measures 4480mm in length and a 2600mm wheelbase. To put things into perspective, the Mahindra XUV300 measures 3995mm in length with a wheelbase of 2600mm.

Mahindra XUV400

If the XUV400 comes with a length similar to the Tivoli XLV, the car will be 485mm longer than the XUV300. This means there will be enough room to bring in a completely new haunch will larger overhangs and accommodate the third row of seats. Speculations are that changes will remain limited to the rear quarter and the front is likely to be the same as the current XUV300. But Mahindra could make subtle changes to the fascia in order to differentiate the XUV300 from the XUV400.

Interior

The Mahindra XUV400 is likely to feature dual-zone climate control air-conditioning, air-conditioning vents in the third row, one-touch tumble seats for easy access into the third row, flat-folding third-row seats to enhance the luggage carrying capacity, captain seat option in the middle row, a touchscreen infotainment system with latest generation features, driving modes, cruise control, etc.

Powertrain

Powering the Mahindra XUV300 is a BS6 compliant 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and an optional 1.5-litre turbo-diesel motor. The petrol engine makes 110 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. The oil burner produces 117 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque. Both engines come with a 6-speed manual transmission and an optional AMT. The XUV400 is likely to use the same powertrain configuration but in a different state of tune.
