Mahindra has launched the 5-door version of the Thar in the Indian market and christened it the Thar Roxx. While the pricing of the Thar Roxx is out, the brand revealed that it will start accepting bookings for the Thar Roxx from 3rd October 2024. In addition to this, the brand also revealed that the test drives for the Thar Roxx will be available from Mahindra dealerships from the 14th September 2024. However, we got the chance to test drive the Thar Roxx in Kochi, bringing you all the information on the 5-door/5-seater SUV, so you can make an informed buying decision.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx is a 5-door 5-seat family friendly SUV. However, that docent mean that the car is any less capable going off roads. It not only comes with 4×4 drive train on specific diesel trims, featuring a part time, manual shift 4×4 system with high & low reduction gear along with ELD (Electric Locking Differential) and 2H mode with a front axle disconnect. The car also comes with a state-of-the art suspension system, featuring an independent front suspension that comes with a double wishbone and coil spring. The front suspension also comes with FDD (Frequency Dependent Damping) & MTV-CL (Multi Tuning Valve – Concentric Land) dampers. On the rear, the Thar Roxx gets a rigid axle, coil spring with WATT’s linkage and HRS (Hydraulic Rebound Stopper), FDD and MTV-CL dampers.
Powering the Thar Roxx are 2 engine options – a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel motor. The mStallion turbo petrol engine comes with two states of tune – a 119kW / 330 Nm matched to a 6-speed manual gearbox, and another 130 kW / 380 Nm options which comes with a torque converter automatic option. The petrol engine only gets rear wheel drive train and no 4×4 is offered with this engine option.
The mHawk diesel engine option also comes in two states of tune – a 111.9 kW / 330 Nm option which comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox as well as the optional 6-speed torque converter automatic. Also available is a 128.6 kW / 370 Nm option on the engine paired to a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The manual transmission option comes with both RWD as well as 4×4 drivetrain. And so does the 6-speed torque converter automatic option that produces the higher 128.6 kW / 370 Nm, but the 6-speed torque converter with 111.9 kW / 330 Nm engine does not get 4×4 drivetrain.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx retains its timeless design as the 5-door SUV is based on the 3-door Thar. However, the brand has made plenty of changes to the front and rear to help differentiate the two. Obviously, the Thar Roxx can be easily identified from the side thanks to the extra set of doors. On the front, the Thar Roxx comes with a new grille design and new light signatures. The bumper has also been reworked to give the Thar Roxx a new front look. The rear comes with new taillamp signatures as well as a new bumper design. The Thar Roxx also gets new interiors, which now come with a 26.03-cm touchscreen infotainment system with connectivity features, full digital instruments and automatic climate control AC. In addition to this, the Thar Roxx also gets a large dual pane panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, premium sound system and a lot more.
