The Mahindra Thar breaks yet another milestone. The SUV has now crossed the 1 lakh sales milestone figure. The off-road SUV arrived in the Indian market in August 2020. And now in May 2023, it crossed the 1 lakh production mark and marks yet another milestone. The Mahindra Thar is the perfect rival to Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha.
Mahindra Thar Price Range
Customers planning to get the Thar petrol variants will have to see through a price tag starting from INR 13.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Similarly, for the diesel variants, the range starts from INR 10.55 lakh and goes all the way up to INR 16.78 lakh, both prices, ex-showroom.
Mahindra Thar Engine And Powertrain Options
Currently, the Thar is available in two powertrain options. These are namely, RWD or 4WD versions. The former comes with a 1.5-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engine. Meanwhile, the 4WD uses either a 2.2-litre diesel or 2.0-litre petrol mill. The transmission options for the Thar include manual and automatic gearboxes. Noteworthy to mention that all engines are compatible with BS6 Phase 2 emission norms.
Mahindra Thar RWD Is In Much Demand
Since its launch, the Thar RWD has been in much demand. With an aggressive price tag, alot more customers are opting for the RWD version. And thus, the Mahindra Thar RWD does lacks some of the off-road capabilities found in the Thar 4WD. However, the Thar RWD does come equipped with a manual locking differential. This allows for decent crawling abilities on rough terrains. But then again, not as capable as the 4WD version.
With a lower entry level price, RWD Thar is racking up a lot of bookings. Due to this, the waitng period for this SUV is touching new highs. As per sources, Thar RWD has a waiting period of beyond 1 year for some places. This astronomical waiting period, defines the love customers are showing for the RWD. This is exactly what Mahindra had targetted with the RWD. To price it lower, thus attracting more customers to join the cult Thar club.
