Volkswagen has showcased to us a limited-run Edition 25 variant of the Polo GTI. This is to celebrate the Polo GTI nameplate completing 25 years. The first Polo GTI went on sale in European markets way back in 1998. This edition will retail only 2,500 units. Thus, the Polo GTI Edition 25 gets a slew of exclusive cosmetic upgrades along with some added features.
The Special edition Polo GTI also gets minor cosmetic enhancements. As we know Volkswagen has a rich heritage and the Polo is an iconic product. VW also mentioned how GTI fans are very important to them. Thus, this anniversary model is a way of marking this milestone together with the GTI family. This model marks the completion of successful 25 years of power, performance, sportiness, and fun driving in the Polo class.
What Are The Changes To The Exterior?
As for the exterior changes, we see blacked-out 18-inch alloys and subtle graphics. As a whole, the Polo GTI Edition 25 is very much identical to the regular GTI. But we do get some subtle body graphics and 18-inch black-finished Adelaide alloy wheels. Other than that, there aren’t many updates. It is nearly identical to the standard. But the main differences come from the use of black and red leather upholstery for the seats. And the door sill plates with “one of 2,500” badging. The steering wheel too bears a “25” logo on the lower spoke compared to GTI lettering on non-special edition units. The seats get black and red leather upholstery in place of the ‘jacara’ pattern fabric on the standard model.
No Performance Upgrades
Coming to the performance, sadly the special edition gets no performance upgrades. It uses the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol unit as the standard Polo GTI. The performance figures are 204 BHP and 320 Nm. Power is fed to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG gearbox. Another key change is that the special edition sits 15 mm lower to the ground. The sports suspension. The special edition also benefits from an electronic locking differential to help put the power down. Volkswagen confirmed that the special edition will retail in Germany from June 1, 2023.
