The country’s most loved off-roader which is also the most easily recognizable SUV, the Mahindra Thar will now be available in a limited edition model called ‘Thar 700’. The Thar 700 will commemorate the 70-year-old rich 4×4 heritage that marked the brand’s lineage from the year 1949 when the first Mahindra vehicle was built. The last batch of 700 Mahindra Thar SUVs will bid a final adieu to the iconic and timeless 4×4 SUV, which will be succeeded by the new 2020 Mahindra Thar.
The Thar 700 will get differentiated features such as decals on the side and bonnet, black finish on the grille, silver finish on the front bumper, 5-spoke alloy wheels, leatherette upholstery with THAR logo on the front seats and Anti-lock braking system (ABS). The main highlight of the car is a special badge on the side fenders which bears the signature of the Mahindra Group, Chairman – Anand Mahindra.
Powering the Mahindra Thar is a 2498cc, 4-cylinder, CRDe engine which develops 105 HP of power @ 3800 RPM and 247 Nm of torque @ 1800-2000 RPM mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It is equipped with a BorgWarner transfer case and a 4×4 drivetrain with manual shifting low range gearbox.
The Thar 700 can be booked at the price of INR 9.99 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi, at any authorised Mahindra dealership or online via their dedicated Mahindra SUV website and is available in two colours:-
The Thar SUV is evolved from the 4×4 vehicles like the CJ, the MM540, the Classic and the Legend and exhibits the brand’s legendary and tough off-roading pedigree. As an off-road enthusiast and a fanboy myself, this might be the last chance to own a piece of Mahindra’s legacy.
