Thar has been one of the most successful products for Mahindra. The carmaker brought the second generation Thar, which has been a runaway success so far. That said, there have been feature deletions over the same period.
It is said that the Thar won’t be offered with the rear differential lock as standard. Customers would have to get it on the top-end LX diesel variant specifically.
Initially, Mahindra used to offer a locking rear differential on all ‘AX Opt’ and ‘LX’ trims. Hence, the buyer didn’t have to worry if this feature was present or not. But now, it seems that the petrol Thar is no longer available with this feature. That said, customers can still order their top-of-the-line diesel AT and MT trims with rear differential locks.
The Thar has lost features like the adjustable lumbar support and 2nd USB port. Mahindra has also changed the tyres to CEAT Czar AT. The carmaker also gave unpainted bumpers from June 2022.
But, alongside, the 2022 model of the Thar now gets ESP, Hill Descent Control and a Door Lock button on the right side of the hazard light switch. Earlier, these were dummy toggles. Additionally, Mahindra changed the shape of the switches as well.
The Mahindra Thar is offered with a choice of two engines. The 2.2-litre mHawk diesel makes a peak power of 130 BHP and a maximum torque of 320 Nm. The 2-litre turbo petrol motor makes 197 BHP of peak power and 380 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox. Four-wheel-drive is standard, along with a low-range gearbox.
At present, Mahindra is working on a 5-door version of the Thar, and these feature deletions could make the 5-door version more attractive compared to this 3-door one.
