Recently, Mahindra revealed the timelines for its new Born Electric range of electric vehicles. Now, lead designer at Mahindra, Pratap Bose has revealed an image of what appears to be the production-ready BE.05.
New details of the Mahindra BE.05
As seen in the image, we can see the top portion of the SUV. Here, Mahindra could have used a fixed glass roof. This means that customers will not be able to open it. A fixed sunroof will also offer a larger opening and allow more light in. There could be an electric window shade to keep the car cool under harsh sunlight. We can also see the rear hatch open. There appears to be a large wing on the boot lid.
Other Details of the Mahindra BE.05
Compared to the concept car, the one in the photo gets fewer cuts and creases. Also missing are the side cameras, which have been replaced by traditional rear view mirrors.
The wheel arches get a regular shape rather than the aggressive flaring of the concept and the glass area’s window line is more distinct as well. Other bits like the C-shaped DRLs and the front end remain similar to the concept.
We can also expect Mahindra to offer goodies like wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, leather seat upholstery, ventilated seats, two zone climate control, a high end sound system and more.
Powertrain details
Based on the INGLO architecture, the BE.05 will get multiple battery options ranging from 60-80 kWh. This will give the car a range of around 450 km. All Mahindra BEVs will support fast charging with a 175 kW fast-charger. With this, users will be able to top up to 80% in less than 30 minutes. This should make it more convenient for electric car users during long trips. Initially, Mahindra will use Valeo sourced motors. Later on, they will use Volkswagen sourced electric motors.
