Looks like the Mahindra Scorpio Classic will be offered in 4WD configuration. But, don’t just jump with joy now, because this variant will be offered to the country’s armed forces. New spy images of the Scorpio Classic 4WD have surfaced online. The images reveal some of the details of this Army-spec vehicle, which is unlikely to be offered to the civilians.
Mahindra Scorpio Classic 4WD : More details
Mahindra has received an order of 1,470 units for the Mahindra Scorpio Classic. This order will be supplied to the Army. The images were taken at the warehouse, where few of these units were kept ready for dispatch.
Finished in the signature military Green shade, the Army-spec cars look pretty much identical to the regular Scorpio Classics. It comes with the slatted grille projector headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, body cladding and roof rails. That said, there are a few noticeable changes. The vertical section of the tail lights (non functional bits) have been replaced by black panels. The SUV is also equipped with a rear tow hook, which could be used to haul a variety of trailers. Mahindra could have upgraded the tow rating of the vehicle as well as per the Army’s requirement.
On the inside, the Scorpio Classic 4WD comes with a 9-inch infotainment system, automatic climate control, leather steering wheel, tilt steering adjustment,12V power outlets and fabric upholstery.
The safety features of the SUV include dual airbags, engine immobiliser, speed alert system, and speed dependent door lock. Mahindra could have also added some more features which we don’t know the details of.
Powertrain of the Mahindra Classic Scorpio 4WD
The Scorpio Classic is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine. This engine produces 130 HP of peak power and 300 Nm of max torque. Mahindra has likely offered this same engine but in a revised state of tune as per the Army’s requirement. The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. A low range gearbox is usually a part of the four-wheel-drive system but we can’t make out the lever for this. Hence it is likely to have an all time four-wheel drive system.
Usage of the Mahindra Classic Scorpio 4WD
The Army could use this SUV for personnel movement, patrolling activities and others. It is unlikely to be put in active combat duties as certain specifications are not present on the car.
