Mahindra has updated its popular SUV the Mahindra Scorpio with a BS6 emissions-compliant engine and discontinued the entry-level S3 model from their official website making S5 the new entry-level trim in the Scorpio portfolio. The brand has also dropped the 2.5-litre diesel engine leaving it with only the 2.2-litre diesel engine option available across the Scorpio range.
In the engine department, the Mahindra Scorpio is powered by a 2.2-litre mHawk series 4-cylinder common rail direct injection diesel engine with an intercooled variable geometry turbocharger. The engine produces 140 bhp of power and 320 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed manual gearbox on the base S5 variant while the S7, S9 and the S11 variants get a 6-speed manual unit. Mahindra is said to have achieved BS6 conformity by using a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system with a dedicated Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank.
In terms of its exterior styling, the BS6 Mahindra Scorpio remains unchanged and features an upright front fascia with a chrome-accented grille, projector headlights and integrated eyebrow-like LED daytime running lights, rounded fog lamps with chrome inserts, a bonnet air-intake for the intercooler, a wide air dam with a silver finished skid plate, muscular wheel arches, engine branding on the fender with a silver bezel and black inserts, Scorpio branding with silver door cladding, 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, a roof-mounted spoiler and red lens LED tail lamps.
On the Inside, the Mahindra Scorpio comes with a dual-tone black and grey layered dashboard with silver and chrome trim, a centrally mounted 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, rotary controls for the air-conditioning system, control mounted steering wheel and semi-digital instrument console. The Scorpio comes with the same seating layout with jump seats in the third row and the option of captain seats in the second row with front-facing seat in the third row in the top of the line S11 model.
The Mahindra Scorpio is available in four exterior paint options – Pearl White, Dsat Silver, Napoli Black and Molten Red.
Owing to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic the BS6 compliant models remain unavailable at the moment, due to the delays in production and Mahindra is expected to announce the prices as soon as things normalise.
