Mahindra reveals XUV400 Formula Edition & Gen3 Formula E race car

Mahindra Racing, the sole Indian team competing in the ABB Formula E World Championship, will soon be racing at its home race – the Greenko Hyderabad E-Prix. The race is scheduled for 11th Feb 2023. 

To this effect, Mahindra has displayed its Gen3 Formula E race car at the event. Further, to celebrate the first ever Formula E race in the country, Mahindra also unveiled the XUV400 Formula Edition. The special edition XUV400 comes with a livery inspired by the racing spirit. The Mahindra Formula E team and the designers at the Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (MADE) worked together to come up with the livery of the Gen3 car. 

Mahindra XUV400 Formula Edition : More Details

The XUV400 Formula Edition consists of a black, copper and red livery. It also has ‘Mahindra’ and ‘Mahindra Racing’ decals on both sides of the car. The doors get a pattern of the twin-peak logos which merge across the black and copper areas. Mechanically, the car has no changes.

The XUV400 comes with a 34.5 kWh battery pack that generates 150 PS and 310 Nm of torque. This variant comes with a certified driving range of 375 km. Key features include 4 disc brakes, connected car features, and electrically adjustable ORVMs. The EL variant comes with a larger 39.4 kWh battery pack that comes with a certified driving range of 456 km. It adds features like keyless entry, an electric sunroof, and side & curtain airbags.

Greenko Hyderabad E-Prix : More Details 

The race is scheduled for 3.00 pm, 11 February 2023. The race will take place on a street circuit that is located on the banks of the Hussain Sagar Lake. The Mahindra Racing team comprises of 2016-17 Formula E Champion Lucas Di Grassi and Oliver Rowland. Rowland is a well-known single-seat champion and has won Formula E races before. 

Mahindra also has Jehan Daruvala as the reserve driver. Jehan will be part of the team at the Hyderabad E-Prix.

The race will take place at a 2.37 km street track. The track is designed by Driven International. The firm is also responsible for the recent updates to the Yas Marina Circuit. In India, the company is also working on other upcoming race tracks. These include the Marque One Motor Club in Andhra Pradesh and the Nanoli Speedway near Pune. 

The race track will go through Lumbini Park along the Hussain Sagar Lake. The CEO of Mahindra Racing said that even though it is a city race, it won’t be disrupting the general public as there are no civilian residencies around the track area. He also said that the organisers are in talks to host the race under the lights in the evening.
