Mahindra opens new EV Manufacturing & Battery assembly plant in Chakan

Mahindra has opened a new facility for the production of electric vehicles (EVs) and the assembly of batteries at its Chakan plant in Pune.

Mahindra’s new facility located in Pune:

The company’s 2.83 square kilometre Chakan manufacturing hub in Pune is one of India’s biggest greenfield developments and this is where the new facility is situated. The Chakan hub was created with sustainability in mind and is entirely powered by renewable energy sources. It is also water-positive. Of its Rs 16,000 crore investment plan for FY22–2027, Mahindra has set aside Rs 4,500 crore to support EV operations, including the development of powertrains, software and technology, and increased manufacturing capacity.

More than 1,000 robots and automated material handling systems are among the cutting-edge automation technologies found at the EV manufacturing facility. In keeping with Mahindra’s emphasis on inclusivity and preparedness for future problems, the facility prioritises skill development and strives for a 25% gender diversity ratio.

The Chakan plant’s battery assembly line is made to use cutting-edge manufacturing techniques to create high-performance batteries. It uses patented designs and automated technologies to guarantee longevity, efficiency, and safety. To guarantee dependability and performance, the batteries are put through a thorough end-of-line testing process that mimics real-world circumstances.

With this project, Mahindra demonstrates its dedication to the “Make in India” effort while also helping India achieve its COP26 commitments for 2030 and other environmental goals. The company’s goal of encouraging innovation and aiding India’s shift to electric vehicles is in line with this development.

Established in 1945, the Mahindra Group has operations in more than 100 nations and is well-represented in industries like financial services, utility vehicles, agriculture equipment, and information technology. By volume, it is the biggest tractor manufacturer in the world, and it keeps growing its presence in logistics, renewable energy, and other sectors. Mahindra wants to promote community development and positive transformation globally through its activities.
