Mahindra has unveiled the next generation OJA platform for tractors. Mahindra’s tractor division has launched seven new tractors based on this new platform. The prices for these start at INR 5.64 lakh, ex-showroom Pune. The launch event look place in Cape Town, South Africa.
The name OJA is derived from the Sanskrit work Ojas, which means energy and strength. There will be three OJA Platforms. These include the Sub-Compact, Compact and Small Utility. All three will boast of standard four-wheel-drive and a high power to weight ratio.
In terms of applications, the sub-compact is designed for North American markets, while the small utility is designed for the USA, India and ASEAN markets. Meanwhile, Mahindra plans to offer the compact platform for the needs of the US, India and ASEAN markets.
In terms of power outputs, the seven new tractors come with 20-40 HP power ratings. All these tractors have been designed with versatility in mind and support a wide range of applications.
Customers can choose amongst three three packs, namely PROJA, MYOJA, and ROBOJA. Under the PROJA pack, the tractors will be equipped with a forward/reverse shuttle and creeper, a tilt and telescopic steering, electric wet PTO and projector headlamps with signature DRL. Meanwhile the MYOJA pack will add service alerts and telematics. The ROBOJA pack will offer features like the auto PTO On/Off during turning and reversing, auto braking, Electronic Depth and Draft Control, Electronic Quick Raise and Lower and Auto Implement Lift.
The new Mahindra OJA platform has been jointly developed in collaboration with the Mahindra Research Valley, India and the R&D centre for Mahindra AFS and Mitsubishi Mahindra Agriculture Machinery, Japan. Mahindra has pumped in an investment of INR 1,200 crore to develop this platform.
The new OJA range of tractors will be made exclusively at the company’s tractor facility in Zaheerabad, Telangana. With the OJA range, Mahindra is aiming to secure 25 percent of the global tractor market.
The OJA range will initially be launched in India. It will be followed up by launches in North America, ASEAN, Brazil, Australia, South Africa, Europe and the SAARC region. The ASEAN debut is expected to occur in Thailand in 2024.
