Mahindra Marazzo automatic variant to launch in 2021

Following its success of the 20,000 bookings of its all-new Thar, a lifestyle vehicle, Mahindra is planning to further strengthen its MPV portfolio with a new Automatic Transmission iteration of the Mahindra Marazzo. The automatic gearbox could make its debut on a new petrol powered version of the MPV in addition to the diesel model that is currently on sale and has been updated to BS6 emission standards. According to sources, a test mule of an Automatic Transmission Mahindra Marazzo has been spotted sans camouflage.

In the past, it was reported that the Mahindra Marazzo could come with an automatic gearbox in the petrol-powered version and the test mule with the ‘AutoShift’ badge could have a petrol motor under its hood. The brand’s new series of Turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injection petrol engine with the displacement of 1.5-litres could be used to power the Mahindra Marazzo.

The mStallion series1.5-litre Turbo-Petrol unit is expected to produce around 163 hp of power and 280 Nm of torque. The engine is likely to be matched to either a 6-speed Manual Transmission or an Aisin-sourced 6-speed Automatic Transmission. Currently, the Mahindra Marazzo is powered by a BS6 emission-compliant 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 121 Bhp of power and 300 Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed manual transmission.

In its BS6 form, the Mahindra Marazzo is offered in three trims – the entry-level M2 variant, the mid-spec M4+ and the top-of-the-line M6+. The brand also offers five paint option on the Mahindra Marazzo – Iceberg White, Aqua Marine, Oceanic Black, Mariner Maroon and Shimmering Silver. The Mahindra Marazzo is priced starting INR 11.25 lakh ex-showroom and goes up to INR 13.51 lakh ex-showroom.

The Mahindra Marazzo draws its design inspiration from the Shark and comes with features that reflect the Shark in nature, even its name ‘Marazzo’ means shark in Spanish. The Mahindra Marazzo comes with a shark tooth-like radiator grille with chrome accents, a shark-fin styled rear tail lamp cluster, muscular front and rear bumpers, flared wheel arches, a sloping bonnet, machine cut alloy wheels and upswept character line on the sides.
