Mahindra & Mahindra brings in the Supro CNG Duo. The prices start at INR 6.32 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). This marks the company’s first Dual-Fuel vehicle in the Small Commercial Vehicle Segment. In recent times, the CNG segment in the sub-2 tonne space has been the fastest-growing segment. Thus, Mahindra sees massive potential in this segment, and hence this new product.
CNG Market On The Rise
In fact, the CNG market (in the sub-2 tonne segment) has grown by 4 times in the last four years. In fact, last year, Mahindra retailed close to 5,000 units per month of CNG in the sub-2 tonne space. And going forward, this will continue to grow at a fast pace going ahead due to lower fuel costs and the expansion of the CNG network across the country.
In the sub-two-tonne market of 16,000 to 17,000 units a month, CNG makes up for 30 per cent of units sold. This equals about 5000 units a month. With the addition of CNG – M&M is witnessing monthly Supro volumes double. The company is also planning to bring in a CNG version in the 1.5 to 2-tonne capacity small commercial vehicles.
Mahindra’s Commercial Range Of Products
Since its launch in 2016, Mahindra & Mahindra has sold close to 1.75 lakh units of the Supro small commercial vehicles. The new Supro CNG duo delivers fuel efficiency of 23.35 km per kilogramme. This results in a range of 325 kilometres, (the CNG plus petrol). This comes in handy helping the driver to operate inter-city peacefully.
The Supro CNG Duo marks Mahindra’s entry into the dual-fuel segment. The aim is to offer remarkably low operating costs to its owners and operators. Mahindra currently has over 850 commercial vehicle touchpoints across the country. This is to ensure faster turnaround time for its prospective buyers in case the vehicle stalls. Noteworthy to mention, the vehicle has been launched at the same introductory price as the outgoing Supro mono CNG.
