Mahindra has over 2.8 lakh pending SUV orders, long waiting periods

Mahindra has a unique problem up its sleeves. The Indian carmaker has over 2.81 lakh pending orders for its SUVs. Meanwhile, Mahindra’s plants are all running at full capacity and over 1,00,000 SUVs have already been delivered this quarter.

Customers are booking over 48,000 Mahindra SUVs

Mahindra billed 37,000 units in the month of July 2023. According to Rajesh Jejurikar, ED and CEO of Auto and Farm at Mahindra & Mahindra, the company is looking at producing 49,000 units per month from Q4 2023-24.

Popular models include Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic. These have a combined order for over 1.17 lakh units. Mahindra is making 14,000 units of these per month.

Meanwhile, the Thar has 68,000 open bookings. The Thar further gets 10,000 new bookings every month. The recently launched Thar RWD has been very successful and has an over 15-month waiting period. This is only increasing day by day. The 4WD in comparison has a 5-month waiting.

The flagship XUV700 has 77,000 bookings pending. Waiting period has increased to almost 1 year for higher variants. Every month, over 8,000 customers are booking the XUV700.

Workhorse Bolero is also popular

Meanwhile, both the Bolero and Bolero Neo have 8,400 pending bookings. Currently, Mahindra can manufacture 9,000 units every month. Further, with the impending launch of the Bolero Neo+, this too is expected to increase. The Bolero currently has the shortest waiting time amongst all the SUVs at Mahindra.

Meanwhile, the XUV300 is also set to receive a facelift sometime next year. Slated for 2024 launch, the car could be offered with a panoramic sunroof, making it the first in the segment to offer this feature. Currently, the compact SUV is offered with a smaller, single-pane sunroof. The larger panoramic sunroof will most likely appeal to a larger set of audience. Even today, customers opt for higher variants with sunroofs on many car models.
