Mahindra files design patent for Thar.e electric SUV, launch is still far away

Indian automaker Mahindra, has successfully patented the Thar.e electric SUV design. The patent, filed on August 10, 2023, marks a significant milestone in Mahindra’s electric mobility journey. This move follows the vehicle’s grand showcase in August of this year, where automotive enthusiasts were treated to a glimpse of the future of electric mobility.

Mahindra Thar.e EV : More Details

Built on the all-new INGLO platform, the Thar.e concept EV features a robust rectangular front fascia with square LED headlamp units and a sturdy front bumper. The rear end of the Thar.e exhibits square LED tail lights, a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, and distinctive flared wheel arches, adding to its adventurous aesthetic.

Inside, the Thar.e boasts a minimalist dashboard equipped with a central touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster. The 3-spoke steering wheel incorporates haptic switches and proudly displays the ‘Thar.e’ logo at its center, enhancing its unique identity.

Technical specs of the Mahindra Thar.e

While specific technical details remain undisclosed, Mahindra has shared certain key specifications. The electric Thar offers an impressive ground clearance ranging from 250 to 300 mm, complemented by short overhangs measuring 640-680 mm at the front and 680-740 mm at the rear. Additionally, the vehicle’s wheelbase falls within the range of 2,775 mm to 2,975 mm, ensuring a spacious and comfortable interior for passengers.

Mahindra might offer a dual motor setup on the Thar.e. These could be sourced from Volkswagen. They could be rated at 80 kW / 135 Nm front and 210 kW / 535 Nm at the back. With so much torque on offer, there could be no need for a low-range gearbox.
