Mahindra discontinues electric E2O Plus

Mahindra and Mahindra’s electric vehicles department, Mahindra Electric Mobility has now discontinued the production of its four-door electric vehicle, the Mahindra E2O Plus, according to a news report. The hatchback was based on the Reva platform and was sold in India and other select International markets. Mahindra has discontinued production and sale for the domestic market amid new strict safety regulations as well as dwindling sales figures. The last unit to be produced was on the 31st of March. Mahindra also sold the E2O Plus in the United Kingdom, but slowed down sales led to discontinuation of the model. A report suggests, the E2O Plus will continue sales in select markets like Nepal and Sri-Lanka.

The Mahindra E2O Plus was made in Mahindra’s Karnataka plant in India and was available in two battery packs an 11 kWh or a 15 kWh and was powered by an AC induction motor with an output of 25 BHP @ 3500 RPM and 70 Nm of torque @ 1050 RPM connected to a 2-speed direct drive gearbox. The Mahindra E2O Plus had a driving range of 110 km to 140 km depending on the battery pack. The E2O Plus could be charged with a 3 kW, 16 Amp single phase socket and took 7 hours 20 minutes to charge and the same could be done in 1 hour 35 minutes using a 10 kW 32 Amp three phase charger.

The discontinued E2O Plus will pave the way to new electric vehicles from Mahindra, like the e-KUV100 which was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo and is expected to be launched later this year. The e-KUV100 will get a 2 phase AC induction electric motor with an output of 31 kW coupled to a lithium-ion battery with an expected real-world range of 140 km on a single charge. The e-KUV100 is expected to get fast charging which will be capable of achieving 80 per cent charge in 1 hour. Mahindra e-KUV100 will become the country’s first all-electric micro SUV and is expected to come with advanced featured like remote diagnostics, cabin pre-cooling, real-time location tracking, battery health monitoring, etc. Mahindra also plans to develop an all-electric car on the XUV300 with an extended range of 200 km on a single charge with an option of a higher capacity battery with a range of 350 to 400 km.
