The Bolero is an iconic car in the Indian market. It has been one of the most popular utility vehicles in the Indian car market, and now, Mahindra has revealed that the Bolero will become BSVI compliant in 2020. The brand has received a certificate from the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT). It is the Bolero Power+ which has received the BSVI readiness certificate.
By early 2020, Mahindra will launch this BSVI compliant Bolero Power+. For now, the Bolero which is still on sale is a BSIV compliant utility vehicle. Mahindra meanwhile is working with their suppliers to get the BSVI components in place to meet the upcoming emission norms. Making the Bolero Power+ BSVI compliant shows the brands commitment to their most loved product in our market. Bolero is the highest selling SUV for Mahindra, and it is the first UV from the brand to get a BSVI engine.
For now, the Bolero has received the 2019 safety norms update. The Bolero now comes with a driver-side airbag, anti-lock braking system (AMS), speed alert system, driver and co-driver seat belt reminder, manual override for central locking and reverse parking sensors.. All variants; the Bolero Power+, Bolero Plus (9-Seater) and the Bolero Ambulance will get the necessary upgrades.
The Bolero also comes with features like high ground clearance, better approach and departure angle, front disc brakes, rear view mirror with anti-glare, seat belt reminder, and typical SUV stance as standard.
For now, the Mahindra Bolero Power Plus gets a 1.5L, 3-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that makes 71 HP of power and 195 Nm of torque. The Bolero in the standard variants gets a 2.5L, 4-cylinder motor which produces 63 HP of power and 195 Nm of torque. Both engines are expected to be made BSVI norms compliant in due course of time.
Mahindra has also revealed that even with the BSVI emission compliance, the diesel powered cars will not become outrageously more expensive. The increase in price will be incremental, but will be justified with the new tech, reduced carbon footprint and may be, better mileage.
