Production of the locally assembled Volvo XC40 Recharge has commenced. The first unit rolled out of the Swedish carmaker’s Hoskote facility outside of Bangalore.
The XC40 Recharge is the all-electric version of the popular XC40 SUV. It was launched back in July 2020 with a single variant on offer with a price of INR 55,90,000.
Volvo has announced plans to become an all-electric carmaker by 2030. The company has also committed to a new all-electric model for the Indian market every year. Local assembly of the XC40 Recharge is a step towards this direction.
When launched, Volvo India had also included a Hassle-free Ownership Package for the XC40 Recharge as part of the ex-showroom price. The package consists of – 3 years comprehensive car warranty, 3 years of Volvo Service Package, 3 years Road Side Assistance, 8 years of battery warranty and 4 years of subscription to digital services.
The XC40 Recharge we get in India is based on the facelift version. While it is similar to the regular XC40, the all-electric version gets a few distinguishing features like a new front and rear bumper and a revised version of the ‘Thor’s Hammer’ headlight DRL. It rides on 20-inch dual-tone alloy wheels with an aerodynamic profile. At the front, the XC40 Recharge gets a blanked-out grille.
On the inside, the it is identical to the XC40. The car also gets a host of features like a new Android-based infotainment screen, e-SIM connectivity, leather-free interiors, an advanced air purifier system and wireless charging. For music lovers, there is also a 600W, 13-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system. The XC40 Recharge also gets a ADAS features with Level 2 Autonomous driving.
India gets the dual motor “Twin” variant. There are two motors in the car. Each motor sits on individual axles making the XC40 recharge an all-wheel-drive vehicle. The motors produce 408 HP and 660 Nm of peak torque. This allows the XC40 Recharge to have a 0-100 km/h time of just 4.9 seconds.
The battery pack consists of a 78 kWh lithium-ion unit. It is said to charge from 0 to 100 per cent in 2.5 hours using a 50kW fast charger. The vehicle also supports a 150 kW fast charger which will reduce the charging time to just 33 mins for a 10-80 per cent top-up. The XC40 Recharge has a claimed range of 418 km (WLTP cycle) on a full charge.
Deliveries of the car are expected to begin from this month.
