Linea to replace Ambassador cabs in Kolkata?

Hindustan Motors is suspending operations at its Uttarpara facility in Hooghly district, this will open up a huge taxi market in the Kolkata region which is currently dominated by the iconic Ambassador.

While only Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors were eyeing this opportunity, now even Fiat has entered the race to tap into what could be a huge opportunity to enhance sales. Ambassador enjoyed monopoly in the taxi space in Kolkata for decades and now with the car being pulled out of the market, Fiat is planning to offer a stripped down version of the Linea for the taxi market.

Fiat revealed that they have already started to sell the Linea to the taxi market in Mumbai and Delhi region. The stripped down Linea variant is expected to be priced around Rs. 6.22 lakh for the taxi segment.

The approval from the state government should come in a weeks’ time clearing the air about which manufacturer bags this deal.

In this race, Maruti is planning to offer the Dzire while Tata Motors is offering the Indigo.
