The Government Think Tank, Niti Aayog has proposed a mass electrification program to curb the increasing air pollution problem, especially in metro cities. The proposal, if implemented could rule out the sale of sub-150cc two-wheelers from the Indian market by the year 2025. Along with this, the Government has also proposed to slash the GST levied on electric vehicles and completely waive off the registration charges to encourage EV sales. The Government of India already provides subsidy to the manufacturer who localises more than 50% in parts under the FAME II scheme, making electric vehicles more affordable and within reach of the common household.
This new move has encouraged many new electric vehicle manufacturers to launch their products in the Indian market. One such manufacturer is Li-ions Elektrik solutions Pvt. Ltd. which has announced the launch of their high-speed electric two-wheeler, SPOCK. The company has designed the electric two-wheeler to provide eco-friendly electric mobility solutions.
The Spock is powered by a 72-Volt 40Ah lithium-ion battery which is swappable and claims a range of 50-130 km on a single charge, depending on the Mode it is used in. The battery is connected to a 1.2 kW continuous and 2.9 kW peak power, brushless DC motor integrated into the wheel hub. The motor can provide a maximum torque of 230 Nm and the vehicle can achieve a top speed of 45 kmph. Spock will cover 130 km when used in the Economy mode and 100 km in power mode. The battery can be fully replenished within three hours and is good for a total of 1200 charging cycles.
The Spock features an ergonomic riding position and sports 12-inch wheels with tubeless tyres. The two-wheeler also comes factory fitted with a thermally insulated cargo box, disc brakes on both the wheels, integrated signal lamps with the tail lamp, motorcycle-like handlebars, hydraulic suspension and detachable battery which can be swapped at a charging station or charged on a desktop station.
Spock has been launched with a price tag of INR 65,000 to INR 99,000 on the road with deliveries to commence from July 2019.
