Land Rover launches Defender diesel in India at INR 94.36 lakh

Land Rover has silently launched the diesel powertrain variant of the Land Rover Defender in the Indian market with the starting price of INR 94.36 lakh ex-showroom. The Land Rover Defender is also available in the 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre Petrol powertrain options with mild hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid Electric technology.

Defender Diesel

The diesel option is available in the D300 trim in both the three-door and five-door versions. Powering the D300 is a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel motor that produces 402 PS of power and 650 Nm of torque. The engine comes with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and a four-wheel-drive system that gives the Defender its superior off-road prowess. The engine is also powerful enough to enable SUV sprint from a standstill to 100 kmph in just 6.7 seconds on the Defender 90 (three-door) and 7 seconds on the Defender 110 (five-door).

Defender Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle

Land Rover also recently opened bookings for the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) Defender in the Indian market. The Defender PHEV is available in the P400e trim on the five-door Defender 110 model. Powering the Defender 110 PHEV P400e is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine coupled to a 105 kW electric motor and a 19.2 kWh battery that help produce 404 PS of power and 640 Nm of combined torque. The engine comes with 8-speed automatic transmission. The PHEV SUV is able to sprint from 0-100 kmph in just 5.6 seconds and is able to achieve a top speed of 209 kmph. The P400e in the international market comes with anĀ all-electric mode that can allow the car to run for up to 43 km with zero tailpipe emissions.

Safety

The Land Rover Defender scored a full 5-star rating at the Euro NCAP crash assessment tests. The Land Rover Defender features seatbelt reminders, seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters on all seat belts, driver and passenger front airbag, side chest airbags, side head airbags, passenger airbag deactivation, speed assistance system, lane assist system, Automatic Emergency Braking and ISOFIX child seat anchorage points as standard.
