Lancia is all set to make a comeback as an electric carmaker. The 116 year old brand will first launch the new Ypsilon in an all-electric and hybrid powertrain option. Alongside, the company also shared its vision for the future starting from 2024. The Italian brand is best known for its record for the most constructors in the gruelling World Rally Championship. The 10 titles it won still stands today.
Taking inspiration from the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE Concept, the new Ypsilon will launch sometime in 2024. After this, the next model will be the Lancia Gamma, an all-electric vehicle that will rival the likes of the Audi A5 Sportback.
The cars will come with the latest battery tech which is claimed to offer a range of upto 700 km on a single charge. The company is hoping that the revised models and the new technology will reflect the brand’s history and heritage of making quality automobiles.
Then, in 2028, there are plans to launch the popular Delta. This will be a reincarnation for the iconic car that is even today revered by enthusiasts. The car will follow in the steps of the icons like the Delta Integrale, Delta S4 and the 037.
Parent company Stellantis has set an ambitious target of selling over 50 percent of the cars outside Lancai’s home market of Italy. While the brand still holds respect in Italy, and people still buy the 12 year old Ypsilion, it remains to be seen how the rest of the world responds to this rebirth.
Stellantis is the result of the merger of Fiat Chrysler and PSA. The new entity has its headquarters in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Some of the brands under the company include Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroen, Dodge, DS, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram and Vauxhall.
