Automobili Lamborghini has reincarnated the legendary ‘Countach’ brand with the LPI 800-4. The brand has revealed that the Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 will be a limited edition model. Automobili Lamborghini will produce only 112 units of the Countach LPI 800-4. The futuristic model pay homage to the legendary Countach, recreated for the 21st century. Automobili Lamborghini unveiled the Countach LPI 800-4 at The Quail, motorsports gathering in Pebble Beach marking Countach’s 50th anniversary.
Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 – Nomenclature
While Lamborghini aficionados would know that the LP in the moniker stands for Longitudinale Posteriore, a longitudinally positioned powerplant. The I in the LPI moniker stands for Hybrid technology. The number 800 in the LPI 800-4 is the power output rounded off at the lower 100th. And finally, the number 4 in the LPI 800-4 denotes the permanent four-wheel-drive technology that the new Countach uses.
Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 – Engine Specifications
Powering the Lamborghini LPI 800-4 is a 6,498cc longitudinally-mounted, 60-degree V12 motor. The engine features electronically controlled variable valve timing and water and oil cross-flow heat exchangers with variable air inlets. The motor also gets Lamborghini Iniezione Elettronica (LIE) with Ion current analysis and complies with EURO 6 – LEV 3 emission class. The internal combustion engine (ICE) produces 780 PS of power and 720 Nm of torque. This converts to a 120 PS/litre specific output.
Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 – Electric Power Unit
Lamborghini has paired the internal combustion engine with an advanced electric power unit that comprises a 48V supercapacitor system. The supercapacitor system features a maximum operative current of 600A and a power density of 2400 W/kg. The e-machine + supercapacitor weighs 34 kg and produces 34 PS of power and 35 Nm of torque.
Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 – Transmission
The Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 comes with a fourth-generation Haldex four-wheel-drive transmission. The Countach features a 7-speed ISR (Independent Shifting Rod) Automated Manual Transmission with the e-machine installed on the rear wheels. The transmission also features a 235mm diameter double dry clutch.
Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 – Performance
Lamborghini claims that the limited edition Countach can sprint from 0-100 kmph in just 2.8 seconds. To achieve 0-200 kmph, the Countach takes 8.6 seconds. The car is also capable of reaching the top speed of 355 kmph. The Countach LPI 800-4 comes with an overall length of 4870mm and a wheelbase of 2700mm. The car weighs 1595 kg (dry).
Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 – Design & Styling
The Lamborghini Countach features a distinctive silhouette and a characteristic wedge shape from the LP 400 and LP 500. The car features the long sloping bonnet and windshield design from the legendary Countach. The fascia draws inspiration from the Quattrovalvole edition and comes with a rectangular grille and headlamps.
The supercar also gets the aerodynamically optimised NACA air intakes into the side doors of the Countach. The LPI 800-4 also gets Periscopio lines running through the roof. The Countach also features the ‘hexagonita’ design on the rear with three-unit rear light clusters and four exhaust pipes. The LPI 800-4 also comes with 20-inch front and 21-inch rear Telephone style alloy wheels shod in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres.
