After the next-gen 390 Duke, KTM India has started road testing the next-gen 200 Duke in India. This is the first time we see the bike out on Indian roads. The Duke series is going to get major upgrades, and one of the main focuses is going to be weight reduction. Thus, the best-selling KTM’s handling could get even sharper.
The test mule can be mistaken for the smaller 125 Duke. However, helping identify that this is a 200 Duke is the rear wheel-speed sensor ring. Unlike the 200 Duke, the 125 Duke gets single-channel ABS. Thus, confirming that this is the 200 Duke.
The new generation of the KTM Duke will get a much sharper and edgier styling than before. The 200 Duke test mule also confirms most of the changes will trickle down from the larger 390 Duke. Starting off with the tank, its extensions are much larger than before and extend beyond the forks. The headlight will likely be similar to the 390 Duke. Thus, it will be pointier like the bigger Dukes. The tail section also looks sleeker thanks to the new rear subframe.
A few of the other notable bit that we can see is the new mirrors. The mirror stalks and mirrors both look more premium and sturdier. The levers also seem to be different. As for the switchgear, the left one is not clearly visible, but we do get to see a new kill switch design similar to the BMW 310s.
The test mule also features a new larger display. It could be an LCD display similar to the one on the 250 Adventure. Even the 125 Duke comes with a TFT display like the 390 Duke in the international markets. However, in India, KTM will likely equip it with an LCD unit instead of a TFT one to keep costs in check.
The new-gen 200 Duke also sports similar mechanical changes to the new-gen 390 Duke. Thus, it gets the lighter 5-spoke alloy wheels from the RCs, a new subframe, an offset monoshock mounted on a new swingarm and a bigger 320mm front disc. KTM has also mounted the front disc on the right side, unlike the current generation Duke. There are only a few things that KTM have carried over. These include the taillight and LED turn signal indicators.
