KTM has revealed the updated 1290 Super Adventure R. The move comes after the Austrian bike maker had a busy year. The company updated its entire Adventure range for 2023 with tech updates and new design tweaks. KTM also revived its 790 parallel-twin motorcycle this year.
The KTM 1290 Super Adventure R comes with a new dashboard and a new paint job. It gets some of the nice bits from the 1290 Super Adventure S which was announced back on 13 December 2022.
The 1290 now gets Bridgestone AX41 tyres as standard. Additionally, the 7-inch colour display will definitely help. Turn-by-turn maps can now be set from the dash itself and riders will not have to take out their phone and set the routes via the KTM mobile app.
The new dash also allows to answer phone calls and log a top ten favourite numbers for quick access on the go.
Speaking of the paint, the bike retains its orange and white theme, but there are now more white bits than before. The trellis frame however has been retained in an orange shade.
The 1290 continues to be powered by the 1301 cc V-twin engine from before. It develops 158.2 BHP and gets a long service interval of 15,000 km. The fuel tank capacity is 23 litres.
Other features on the bike include a manually-adjustable WP suspension with split cartridge, 220 mm of travel on off-road terrain, Bosch 6D lean sensor that offers traction control, wheelie control, cornering ABS, multiple riding modes for on- and off-road, and more amongst others.
Meanwhile, in other news, KTM is possibly working on a RC 990 Sports bike. It looks like KTM wants to get into the sports bike segment. Back in the early 2010s, the Austrian bike maker had brought the RC8R, but its replacement never came in. Now, test mules of what appears to be a new pre-production large-displacement bike from KTM has been spotted testing.
