KTM reveals RC 8C sport bike for racing

Written by Nizam Shaikh

KTM has unveiled the new RC 8C, a limited edition sportbike for track racing. The Ready To Race motorcycle is a precise tool to put in fast lap times and unmatched precision. The lightweight racing prototype uses the LC8c engine in a track-ready chassis and high-end racing components. The KTM RC 8C is completely hand-built and engineered to be 100% ready for the track. In essence, the KTM RC 8C allows the customers an experience as close to a Factory Race Bike as possible. But without having to have a specialised team to maintain it.

KTM RC 8C – Technical Specifications

Powering the RC 8C is an 889cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine. The LC8c engine with an 8-valve DOHC valvetrain produces 128 Hp of power. The engine is wrapped in a dedicated 25CrMo4 steel tubular frame. The LC8c engine and frame ride on specially curated WP Pro suspension components on both the front and rear. The motorcycle also features a lightweight carbon Kevlar-reinforced GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) bodywork that draws inspiration from the KTM RC16. The bike tips the scales at just 140 kg (dry), with a near 1:1 power/weight ratio.

KTM RC 8C – Suspension Components

KTM uses high-quality and lightweight materials for the hand-built 43 mm WP APEX PRO 7543 closed cartridge front fork. The front suspension components share their development efforts with the KTM Factory Racing team. The brand also revealed that the suspension is assembled in the same department which builds and maintains the KTM RC16. The rider can also continually control the damping properties thanks to zero hydraulic stroke limitation. On the rear, KTM has equipped the WP APEX PRO 7746 shock with preload adjuster.

KTM RC 8C – Brakes, Wheels, and Tyres

Stopping power on the KTM RC 8C comes from Brembo race-spec equipment. The front comes with 290 mm fully floating brake discs with aluminium rotors and titanium bolts. The 290 mm brake rotors feature Brembo Stylema stoppers. The rear wheel is supplied with a 230 mm fully floating disc with Brembo two-piston calliper. The KTM RC 8C is also fitted with a MotoGP race bike inspired Brembo 19RCS CORSA CORTA radial master cylinder. The KTM RC 8C also features lightweight Dymag wheels and Pirelli SC1 race slick tyres.

KTM RC 8C – Features

Being a race bike, the motorcycle comes with a quick-release tank and body panels, AIM MXS 1.2 RACE dashboard and data logger with an integrated GPS function. The bike features a 5.5-inch TFT display with integrated data recording and an AIM Race Studio data analyser. The motorcycle also comes with a racing exhaust equipped with an Akrapovič titanium muffler. The bike also gets a dedicated airbox and racing air filter.
