KTM plans to change 125 Duke, 200 Duke & RC 200 exhaust design

According to media reports, KTM India is likely working on increasing the ground clearance of the 125 Duke, 200 Duke and the RC 200. When the brand made changes to the three bikes to comply with BS6 emission norms, the ground clearance was impacted. To comply with the emission norms, KTM India changed the exhaust’s routing under the belly of the bike and installed a silencer protector. Currently, the ground clearance of the Dukes is 155mm and 156mm in the RC 200.

KTM 125 Duke, 200 Duke & RC 200 – New Exhaust In The Works

According to sources, KTM India is planning to fit a redesigned exhaust system as well as remove the silencer protector that is there in the current models. These changes to the exhaust system will likely increase the ground clearance by 20mm. Thus, with the additional 20mm of ground clearance, the 125 Duke and 200 Duke will have a ground clearance of 175mm. Meanwhile, their supersport sibling, the RC 200, will get 176mm of ground clearance.

With the higher ground clearance, the chances of these bikes’ bottom scraping over tall speed breakers will reduce greatly. However, it is imperative to use the rear monoshock preload settings and adjust it if carrying luggage or a pillion accordingly.

All the changes KTM India makes to the exhaust system could also result in the bikes sounding different than before. However, that’s something that such leaks can’t convey. Thus, we’ll have to wait and check the bike out in person to find out.
