As reported online by many sources, Austrian bike manufacturer KTM is currently developing a new 690cc engine. It is a heavily reworked 690cc LC4 engine that was earlier used on the 690 Duke. The reports also suggest that the company is intrigued by the Ducati Hypermotard 698 launch and hence the new engine is under work.
Not long ago, the Hypermotard 698 by Ducati won the world’s most powerful single-cylinder engine title. Earlier, it was owned by the KTM 690 Duke for a long period. In fact, the Austrian brand has been known for making punch-packed single-cylinder engines globally. Now, an updated version of the 690cc LC4 engine is expected to be introduced via a new bike.
Moreover, the brand has reportedly showcased this new engine at the recent Moto-Austria trade fair. It is reported to be 1.5 bhp more powerful than the Ducati’s Hypermotard 698. If so, it will again become the world’s most powerful engine when launched. It is also reported that this new engine will be Euro 5+ emission norms compliant and it will power a Husqvarna sibling brand model as well.
So, shall we assume that a new 690 Duke is on its way soon? Well, it will not be the correct thing to say but we can anticipate a new lightweight fun-to-ride motorcycle is coming for sure with the new powerful single-cylinder engine.

KTM has been struggling with a financial setback. But, it does not let down the spirit of the company as the development of new motorcycles and powerful engines continues. It would be fair to say that this new 690cc engine will debut in the second half of this year; probably at EICMA 2025.
