KTM has decided to discontinue its 125cc models in India. This decision comes as the bikes will not be updated to comply with the upcoming OBD2B regulations, which come into effect on April 1, 2025. The Duke 125 was first introduced in India in 2018, followed by the RC 125.
The Duke 125 and RC 125 are powered by a 124.7cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, producing 14.34 bhp and 12 Nm of torque. Both models feature a six-speed gearbox, WP Apex 43mm USD front forks, and disc brakes with switchable ABS. Despite their premium components and sporty design, the 125cc segment has not performed well for KTM in India.
The decision to discontinue these models is primarily due to low demand and dwindling sales. The high price tag associated with the Duke 125 and RC 125 has made them less popular compared to competitors like the Yamaha R15 and MT-15. KTM India has not officially confirmed the discontinuation. However, the models are expected to be removed from the market by April 1, 2025.
Dealers are offering significant discounts on the remaining stock of the Duke 125 and RC 125. This is an excellent opportunity for enthusiasts to purchase these bikes at a reduced price before they are no longer available.
The discontinuation of the KTM Duke 125 and RC 125 in India marks the end of an era for the brand’s entry-level offerings. The decision is driven by low demand and regulatory changes. This highlights the challenges faced by premium 125cc motorcycles in the Indian market. We hope KTM continues to innovate and bring new models that cater to the evolving preferences of Indian consumers.
