KTM could launch 390 SMC R supermoto soon

KTM is getting ready to launch the new 390 Adventure series motorcycles in the international markets. The brand will also be launching its new Adventure range in India as well. This is likely to include the Adventure 390 and an Enduri style motorcycle with off-road friendly parts. However, media reports now suggest that another Supermoto based on the same engine and platform is likely to make its debut internationally soon. The Supermoto 390 has been spotted testing abroad and is speculated to make its debut at the upcoming EICMA 2024.

Spied Testing

According to reports, the Supermoto bike is likely to be christened 390 SMC R. Spyshots of the KTM 390 SMC R reveal the design as well as the rider’s triangle. Spy images reveal that the upcoming KTM 390 SMC R is likely to use the same frame as the 390 Adventure. However, the chassis geometry is likely to be altered to offer a more upright and aggressive riding stance.

Also, both the suspension on the 390 SMC R are likely to have a tune more suited to road riding. In addition to this, the footpegs appear mildly rear set which will allow the rider more body movement on the supermoto as compared to the Adventure motorcycle that is likely to be more touring friendly. The 21/18-inch wheel setup which was seen on the Enduro is likely to be replaced with a 17/17-inch setup shod with road going tyres. The handlebar is likely to be wide offering an open-chested riding stance. The motorcycle is also likely to offer a chisselled fuel tank, a beak on the front along with a sharp tail section.

Powertrain

In the powertrain department, the KTM 390 SMC R is likely to come with the same LC4c (Liquid-Cooled 4-valve Compact) 399cc single-cylinder engine. The engine is likely to produce the same 45 Bhp of power and 39 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed gearbox. In addition to this, the 390 SMC R is likely to come with electronic aids such as cornering ABS and cornering traction control. The motorcycle is also likely to come with multiple riding modes.

Will it come to India?

KTM is likely to produce the 390 SMC R at the Bajaj Auto manufacturing plant in Chakan, Pune and export the bike to the European and American markets. However, we are not yet sure if the brand will retail the 390 SMC R in India.
