In a strategic move to rev up its presence in the Indian market, KTM has announced an ambitious plan to introduce its range of big bikes through a network of exclusive premium showrooms. This initiative marks a significant shift in the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer’s approach to selling its high-performance machines in one of the world’s largest two-wheeler markets.
Understanding the growing appetite for premium motorcycles in India, KTM is setting up dedicated showrooms that will initially be located in select metropolitan cities. These exclusive outlets will serve as the primary hubs for the sale of KTM’s large-capacity models, ensuring that customers receive a premium buying experience that matches the caliber of the bikes on offer.
While the exact models slated for release are yet to be confirmed, industry speculation suggests that the 890 Adventure and the 990 Duke are strong candidates for the Indian roads2. These models are expected to cater to the diverse preferences of Indian riders, from those seeking adventure touring capabilities to enthusiasts of naked street bikes.
KTM’s decision to sell its big bikes through exclusive showrooms is part of a long-term strategy aimed at establishing a solid foothold in the premium segment of the Indian motorcycle market1. The company’s previous attempt to introduce the BS4 790 Duke in 2020 saw the model being sold through existing dealerships, which diluted the exclusivity of the ownership experience. This time around, KTM is determined to offer a more focused and upscale customer journey.
As the brand’s presence grows, there are plans to upgrade select existing KTM dealerships, allowing them to also showcase these premium machines3. This expansion will enable KTM to reach a wider audience while maintaining the high standards set by the exclusive showrooms.
This new venture also paves the way for Husqvarna, KTM’s sister brand, to introduce its big bike portfolio in India. Models like the Svartpilen 801 and Norden 901, which share platforms with KTM’s offerings, could soon make their way to the Indian market, further enriching the premium motorcycle landscape.
