KTM 790 SMC Supermoto spotted testing

A new KTM has been spotted testing and the motorcycle is expected to replace the 690 SMC and is likely to be based on the KTM 790 platform and will be competing with the Ducati Hypermotard. The Ducati Hypermotard 950 has been launched in India and the KTM supermoto has been coincidently spotted testing, but on international soil.

The images show a naked street motorcycle with a beak-like front fender, split type full LED headlamp unit, full digital TFT colour display, sharp fuel tank, wide seats, luggage rack on the rear end, knuckle guards, an upswept exhaust, etc.

The new supermoto is expected to get the more powerful 790 parallel twin engine instead of the LC4 690 super single. The supermoto is likely to be powered by a 799cc, parallel-twin motor which will be liquid-cooled, 8-valve cylinder head with a chain-driven DOHC and a crankshaft balancer to reduce the vibrations. The engine delivers 105 HP of power and 87 Nm of torque coupled to a 6-speed transmission with a slipper assist clutch.

Other mechanical components are expected to be shared from the KTM 790 Duke and the 790 SMC is likely to get the KTM Adventure 790 chassis which will been tweaked to get the supermoto ergonomics. Other hardware will remain the same and the bike is expected to get 43mm upside down WP units on the front and an adjustable preload rear WP monoshock, twin 300mm hydraulically operated disc brakes with radially mounted 4-piston callipers on the front and a 240mm single disc with a 2-piston floating calliper on the rear, Bosch 9MP two-channel ABS, lean-angle-sensing traction control, launch control, four riding modes and a bi-directional quick shifter.

KTM is likely to showcase the KTM 790 SMC at the upcoming EICMA Motor Show alongside the KTM 790 SMT which is the highway touring model. The KTM 790 SMC is also expected to come to the Indian market in the near future, since the 790 Duke is already in pipeline.
