Kia India has officially announced the name of its upcoming compact SUV, christened the Kia Syros. The name, pronounced as “See-ross,” aligns with Kia’s tradition of naming its SUVs with the letter “S” and reflects the brand’s new design language.
The Kia Syros is expected to feature a bold, boxy design inspired by Kia’s EV9 and Carnival models. The SUV will sport vertically stacked LED headlights, long LED DRLs, and L-shaped LED tail lamps. The interior is anticipated to have a dual-tone theme, a 2-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, dual digital displays, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
Kia is likely to offer the Syros with two engine options: a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine. The SUV is expected to come with both manual and automatic transmission options. The powertrain will be similar to the Sonet and we expect that the power and torque output will be similar too. There are also rumors of a potential electric variant in the future.
The Syros will come equipped with advanced safety features, including six airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, reversing camera, and electronic stability control (ESC). The SUV will also boast a range of modern technologies, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a 360-degree camera.
The Kia Syros will sit between the Sonet and the Seltos which puts it in direct competition with the Citroen Basalt and the Tata Curvv. However, as compared to the Basalt and the Curvv, the Syros is a completely different body type which makes it unique to the segment. The Syros is expected to be priced aggressively. We expect it to be priced between INR 9 lakh to INR 12 lakh. The new Kia SUV will make its global debut in the next 2-3 weeks.
