Kia India has tentatively named the new upcoming SUV as the Kia Syros. Speculations suggest this is the new Clavis that Kia has been testing in India for a while now.
The name ‘Syros’ has recently been trademarked by Kia in India. The name Syros has its roots in the words “sour” or “osoura” which mean “rocky” in ancient Phoenician. It is also the name of a greek island. The trademark registration has sparked speculation that the upcoming compact SUV, previously known internally as the Clavis, could be launched as the Syros. The trademark application was filed on March 19, 2024, and was accepted and advertised on April 29, 2024.
The new compact SUV is expected to be positioned between the Sonet and Seltos in Kia’s lineup. This places the Syros in a competitive segment, going head-to-head with other sub-4m SUVs in the market4.
Spy images suggest that the Syros is likely to be well-equipped with features like ADAS and front parking sensors, a digital instrument cluster, and a touchscreen infotainment system. Top-spec models could also include a panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, and a 360-degree camera.
Reports suggest that the Syros could be offered with conventional petrol and pure-electric powertrains. A hybrid powertrain might also be introduced at a later date. All versions are expected to be front-wheel drive models.
The petrol-powered Syros is expected to debut towards the end of this year, with sales beginning early next year. The Syros EV is expected to launch by mid-2025.
