2020 Kia Sonet technical specification, variant details and paint options leaked

The Kia Sonet has made its world debut but the brand did not reveal its technical specifications which are due to be released closer to the compact SUVs launch. The Kia Sonet is the South Korean carmaker’s third product offering in the Indian market and comes with several segment-defining features and a new crisp design. 

But, technical specifications of the Kia Sonet have emerged on the internet in the form of leaked documents that appear to show the compact SUVs exterior dimensions, the details on its powertrain as well as the paint options the Kia Sonet will be made available with. 

Beginning with the size, according to the leaked documents, the Kia Sonet measures in at 3,995 mm in length, 1790 mm in width, 1,647 mm in height and comes with a wheelbase of  2,500 mm along with a generous 211 mm of ground clearance and 392 mm of the boot space. 

In terms of powertrain options, the brand has already officially revealed that the Kia Sonet will come with 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine, confirmed at the SUVs world debut but no power or torque figures were revealed, but according to the leaked documents. 

The 1.2-litre NA petrol engine is likely to make 83 PS of power and 115 Nm of torque and come matched to only a 5-speed manual. The 1.0-litre Turbo-Petrol unit is likely to produce 120 PS of power and 172 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed iMT (intelligent Manual Transmission) and a 7-speed DCT gearbox. The 1.5-litre diesel is likely to come in two states of tune depending on the gearbox, the 6-speed manual option will come with 100 PS of power and 240 Nm of torque while the 6-speed automatic (torque convertor type) is likely to come with 115 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque.

The engine and gearbox options are likely to be spread across HTE, HTK and HTK+ on the 1.2-litre NA engine, the 1.0-litre with iMT transmission is likely to come with HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and GTX+ trim, HTK+ and GTX+ on the 7-speed DCT and the 1.5-litre diesel engine is likely to come in the HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and GTX+ on the 6-speed manual and HTK+ and GTX+ trim on the automatic. 

The leaked documents also reveal the paint finishes that are likely to be offered on the Kia Sonet when the compact SUV is launched. The Kia Sonet is expected to be offered with – White, Silver, Red, Grey, White Pearl, Black Pearl, Blue and Gold.
