The very popular Kia Seltos SUV has scored a top 5-star rating in the ANCAP crash tests. Kia has outnumbered quite a few car manufacturers in India which have been in the market for years with just the Seltos SUV, which is a 5-seater SUV to rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, etc. The Kia Seltos scored 85% in adult occupant safety, 83% in child occupant safety, 61% in vulnerable road user safety & 70% in safety assist features.
The Kia Seltos crash tested for the Australian and New Zealand markets by ANCAP were equipped with features such as dual front airbags, side airbag and curtain airbags along with autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning and emergency lane keeping function.
For adult occupants, the Kia Seltos body shell was rated to be stable during the frontal offset crash test. However, there was an intrusion near the accelerator pedal which could pose a risk to the right leg of the driver. Protection for the driver chest was also adequate. Protection for the front passenger was adequate for the chest region and good for all other body parts. During the side impact test, protection offered to all critical body parts was rated as good. During the full width front crash test, the driver body protection was rated as good except for the poor rating for pelvis area. Protection for rear passengers during full width crash test was also rated as good.
For child safety, the frontal offset crash test got poor rating for the neck area of a 10 year old dummy while it was rated as adequate for a 6 old dummy. Protection for other body parts of both dummies was rated good. In side impact, both dummies for children got a good safety rating with maximum points.
For pedestrian safety, the bonnet of the Kia Seltos delivered marginal or adequate protection but the rear of the bonner below the windscreen base it scored weak / poor rating.
Point to note, the Kia Seltos crash tested by ANCAP comes with a few features different compared to the India-spec model.
