According to a Technical Service Bulletin, Kia Motors India has issued a service campaign for the Seltos Diesel SUV in the Indian market for a fault with the fuel pump. The service campaign has not been announced as a recall, but leaked official documents confirm that the Seltos manufactured between 1st October 2019 and 13th March 2020 could be affected by the faulty fuel pump. It is important to note that no accidents or injuries have been reported pertaining to this part problem.
The Service Bulletin was dated 5th October 2020 and describes the symptom and remedy for the problem. The Kia Seltos diesel vehicle with the faulty fuel pump may have vibrations, very low pick up or the vehicle may not start. The countermeasure from Kia is to inspect the fuel sender and replace it, if found faulty. The service bulletin also has a VIN list of the cars attached to it which may be under the scanner for this part replacement.
Furthermore, fresh fuel pumps are being supplied for the service campaign. The recalled part could have a hole at the lower end of the filter or the cylindrical head may be partially cracked. In both cases, Kia is expected to replace the fuel pump at no extra cost to the customer. If no damage is found to the fuel pump it will not be replaced.
Powering the diesel Kia Seltos is a BS6 emission-compliant 1.5-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine option that makes 115 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque coupled to a 6-speed manual or a torque converter type 6-speed automatic transmission.
