Kia Motors India has rolled out the first production-spec Kia Sonet from the brand’s state-of-the-art Anantapur production facility in Andhra Pradesh. The Kia Sonet will be exclusively manufactured at the Anantapur manufacturing plant. The brand plans to make India the export hub for the Sonet to cater to the demand of over 70 global markets including Middle-East and Africa, Latin America and Asia. Kia Motors is preparing to launch the Sonet in India on September 18, 2020.
Kia also announced that the company has that after testing the Kia Sonet for over 100,000 kilometres in some of the most challenging terrains and different climatic conditions in the Indian market, the company initiated mass production of the Sonet in India. Similar to the segment disrupting Kia Seltos Mid-Size SUV, the Made in India Sonet compact SUV will be sold in various global markets.
Following its world debut, the Kia announced pre-bookings on the Kia Sonet from 20th August 2020 with a booking amount of INR 25,000 through all Kia Dealerships as well as through the brand’s contactless online channels. The brand also revealed that the Kia Sonet bagged 6,523 bookings on the very first day.
The Kia Sonet compact SUV is offered in a dual trim concept – Tech Line and GT Line, with Tech Line consisting of five variants HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX and HTX+ and the GT Line having a single fully loaded GTX+ trim that offers all the luxurious features in a sporty package. The Kia Sonet is offered in three powertrain options including 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol, a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre CRDi diesel option with a choice of five transmission options including a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque converter automatic, a 7-speed DCT (Dual Clutch automatic transmission) and a new 6-speed intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) with a clutch-pedal-less gearbox.
