Kia reveals new EV5 electric SUV

Kia has unveiled the new EV5 electric SUV. This car is the 3rd car after the EV6 and the EV9 to be based on the dedicated EV platform.

Kia EV5 : Design Details

From a glance we can see that the Kia EV5 takes inspiration from the larger EV9. It gets a 2-box design and the Korean carmaker is touting it as the electric equivalent of the Kia Sportage.

The EV6 gets sharp design elements and offers increased practicality thanks to its large interior space. The front end gets a minimalist design. There are large DRLs and a full-width light bar at the front. The car also gets chunky cladding on the lower half all-around. Towards the back there is the signature Kia design with C-shaped tail lamps and a two piece light bar. The large Kia logo in the middle stands out as well.

Interior of the Kia EV5

On the inside, the car comes with different configuration options. Kia is offering four interior colours and five seat fabric options. There is a 64-colour ambient light as well. Other features include dual screen layout – for infotainment and the driver, a four-spoke multifunction steering wheel, and slim AC vents.

One of the unique features of the ambient lights is its ability to sync with the driving mode set as well as auto dim in suitable conditions. Further, the lights will also change colour or flash to alert the driver in case they exceed the speed limit amongst others.

Technical details of the Kia EV5

Kia has not yet released more details of the car. However, the EV5 is likely to be offered with both single and dual-motor options. There could be multiple battery sizes as well.

The car has been previewed in China and the country will also be the first market where the car goes on sale initially. That said, Kia will further launch it in other international markets as well. Coming to India, if launched, the car will be slotted below the EV6.
