Kia planning to launch EV6 in India soon?

Korean brand Kia recently launched their first all-electric offering, the EV6, across several international markets, which received significant praise. Now, reports suggest that Kia is planning on bringing the EV6 to India as an import. Reportedly, Kia India may introduce its first EV offering that features a plethora of tech and safety features by June 2022. However, since Kia India is likely to bring the EV6 as a CBU, it will definitely sport a hefty price tag.

2022 Kia EV6: What is it?

Being the automaker’s first electric crossover, the EV6 is the result of Kia’s ‘Plan S’ strategy of producing future-ready EVs. The EV6 uses the same E-GMP platform sourced from Hyundai that’s also found on its sibling, the Ioniq 5. Since its launch, the EV6 has achieved the certification for product carbon footprint along with a ‘Carbon Measured’ label. When it comes to design, the EV6 features Kia’s latest ‘Opposites United’ philosophy, giving it a sleek yet sporty stance.

Some of its exterior details include the LED headlamps with integrated DRLs and a sculpted bumper housing the slim grille. Highlighting the crossover design even further are the curved LED taillights with an integrated light bar and a rear spoiler. Complementing the overall look further are the 21-inch, sculpted alloy wheels on the top-spec version of the EV6. On the inside, Kia has equipped the EV6 with technology-focused features like the 12.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

The centre cabin console of the EV6 sports a switchable dual-screen that either display the HVAC controls or infotainment controls. Along with multiple connected car features, the EV6 sports an all-new, two-spoke steering wheel and an AR-enabled heads-up display. Adding to the safety and convenience aspects of the electric crossover are the various ADAS systems on offer by Kia. Overall, the EV6 is an important milestone for the automaker as it’s actively pursuing a future of an all-electric portfolio.

2022 Kia EV6: Technical Specs & India plans

There is no word as of yet with regards to which powertrain setup Kia may introduce for the India-spec EV6. However, in global markets, the EV6 sports two battery pack options along with two drivetrains- AWD and RWD. The first is the 55kWh battery pack option that offers 170 PS via a single motor in the RWD layout. Meanwhile, in the AWD layout with dual electric motors, the EV6’s 55kWh battery produces 235 PS of power.

The second and larger 77.4kWh battery option offers 230 PS via the single motor in the RWD guise. On the other hand, the same battery pack offers 325 PS via the dual motors in AWD guise. Kia also offers the EV6 in a performance-oriented GT variant that sports 585 PS and 740 Nm with AWD. For the Indian market, sources suggest that Kia and Hyundai’s plans may involve introducing 6 all-electric models by 2024.
