Kia is one of the fastest-growing carmakers in India. Kia solidifies its position among the top five carmakers in the country. The market share for the brand stood at 6.5 per cent in April 2022. In comparison, the brand’s market share for the same period last year was 5.6 per cent, 0.9 per cent lower. The carmaker sold 19,019 cars in April 2022, allowing Kia to register a year-on-year growth of 18 per cent.
Kia’s Seltos continues as the highest-selling car in its lineup, with 7,506 units sold. The next biggest contributor was the newly launched Carens with 5,754 units, followed by Sonet, with 5,404 units and Carnival with 355 units sold. In addition to this, Kia also added another achievement to its list in April. They did so by crossing the 2 lakh connected car sales milestone in India.
Kia recently launched the 2022 Seltos and Sonet. The updated models get new colours, standard safety features and more features. Expect more demand for both SUVs in the coming months.
Also on the cards are CNG models of the Sonet and Carens MPV. When launched, Kia will be one of the few manufacturers to offer a premium CNG car. According to reports, Kia will pair both the CNG models with the turbo-petrol engine in their lineup. This means the Sonet CNG will get the 1.0-litre T-GDi. On the other hand, the Carens CNG will utilise the 1.4-litre T-GDi engine.
The South Korean manufacturer recently announced its entry into the EV space. The carmaker will launch its globally acclaimed Kia EV6 in the country soon. The Kia EV6 uses a new dedicated EV platform – E-GMP. With the EV6, Kia India aims to offer premium mobility solutions to its Indian customers. The EV6 will come to India via the CBU route. Although, Kia will bring only 100 units of the EV, and the bookings will start on 26th May 2022.
