Kia India has posted its sales report for May 2022. The carmaker sold a total of 18,718 units for May 2022. For the given period, Sonet contributed the highest volume of sales with 7,899 units. Second on the list was Seltos with a sales volume of 5,953 units and Carens on third with 4,612 units. This sales figure also accounts for 15 EV6 cars that have been dispatched to dealerships as display cars.
The situation around the shortage of semiconductor ships is gradually recovering. This is evident from the fact that Kia sold a total of 97,796 units in the first 5 months of CY2022. This translates to a growth of 19 per cent plus YTD. Kia continues to mark its name in the top-5 selling car makers. With the May sales figure, Kia India surpassed the domestic sales milestone of 4.5 lakhs. Meanwhile, Sonet achieved the 1.5 lakh sales figure since its inception.
Kia EV6 – Electric Is The Future
The South Korean carmaker has officially launched its fully electric EV6. This vehicle marks the carmaker’s commitment to a sustainable mobility solutions provider. EV6 is already a successful product in the international market and has already won the European Car of the Year. Kia India commenced the bookings of the new EV6 on May 26, 2022, but only through selective dealerships across India. With the price tag of INR 59.99 lakh (ex-showroom), EV6 certainly falls into the luxury segment.
As of now, Kia will only bring in 100 units of the EV6 to India in 2022. Thus the company will follow the first-come, first-serve scheme for bookings. Kia mentioned that they have already received 355 bookings for the EV6. Therefore, they do have plans to bring in more units for India. For the mass-market passenger vehicle segment, we could see a Kia EV sometime in 2025. Thus, both models will cater to the two spectrums of audiences.
