Kia EV9 electric SUV concept revealed at Auto Expo 2023

Kia revealed the EV9 electric SUV concept in India at the Auto Expo 2023 in Delhi. The electric SUV concept first made its appearance in the international market at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2021. Also, it is important to note that the production version of the concept is set to launch in the international markets in Q1 of 2023. According to Kia, the EV9 electric SUV concept is inspired by nature. Therefore, the car uses upcycled materials that the brand developed from waste deposits. 

Kia EV9 Electric SUV Concept – e-GMP

The Kia EV9 uses the brand’s Electric Global Modular Platform (e-GMP). The e-GMP is Kia’s dedicated EV platform and consists of various components including the chassis, battery, motor and electric system. In addition to this, the e-GMP architecture also features a scalable wheelbase. A Scalable wheelbase will allow Kia to manufacture different kinds of EVs using the same platform. Thanks to the e-GMP Kia EV6, which is on sale in India, also uses the same platform. 

Kia EV9 Electric SUV Concept – Design Highlights

The EV9 electric SUV concept features a boxy design and an upright stance. On the front, the concept SUV gets a ‘Star Cloud’ light pattern and a blanked-out grille. The bumper features a sharp design on both the front and rear, reiterating Kia’s signature design. On the sides, a contemporary trapezoidal wheel arch design gives the SUV a futuristic look. The angular wheel arch is complimented well thanks to the large 22-inch wheels with integrated air curtains to improve the aerodynamic coefficient. As for the size, the EV9 electric SUV concept measures 4,930mm in length, 2,055mm in width and 1,790mm in height. Meanwhile, the wheelbase stands at 3,100mm. 

Kia EV9 Electric SUV Concept – ‘Bold For Nature’

On the inside, Kia’s focus on sustainability brings recycled materials. The brand reveals that the flooring of the EV9 is made of recycled fishnets, while the seating fabric is made up of recycled plastic bottles and wool fibres. The South Korean brand also aims to reduce the use of animal leather in all its upcoming vehicles.
