Kia India recently announced the commencement of bookings for its flagship, the EV6, in India. The South Korean company will officially launch the car on 2nd June 2022. However, we won’t have to wait till then due to a recent leak. Kia has had a successful run with its current offerings, the Seltos, Sonet, Carens and even the Carnival in India. Hence, the company will try to achieve the same with the all-electric EV6.
A source within the company has now given a scoop about the car’s pricing. According to the source, the RWD variant of the EV6 will cost INR 65 lakh ex-showroom. At the same time, the AWD model will come in at INR 70 lakh ex-showroom. Going by these prices, the approximate on-road price will be INR 67 lakh and INR 73 lakh, respectively.
Prospective customers can book the EV6 by paying an amount of INR 3 lakh. Kia will take bookings on a first-come, first-serve basis. The EV6 will be available only in 15 select dealerships. These dealerships will span 12 cities across the country. Interested customers can also book the car by visiting the official website of the manufacturer.
According to a previous report, Kia will charge a cancellation fee of INR 50,000. In addition to this, it will also charge processing fee/convenience charges as per actuals. However, these charges will apply only in case of a cancellation. Since the numbers are limited and the cars will come as CBUs, customers are not allowed to change the trim or colour after the booking. Additionally, customers are also not allowed to make modifications to the name. There are sources saying the cancellation charges can be negotiated and even waved off. However, there is no confirmation from any source regarding the same.
Kia will only bring 100 units of the EV6 to India in 2022. Deliveries for the RWD variant will begin in December 2022, while the AWD variant’s deliveries will begin in September 2022. However, these delivery timelines are only for bookings placed in the last two days. Kia is quoting a waiting period of 10 months for new bookings.
The most recent launch in the EV space is the BMW i4 eDrive40. The sports electric sedan costs INR 69.9 lakh ex-showroom. This puts it in the same price range as the Kia EV6. Despite the EV6 sporting more features than the BMW, the EV6 does not fit in the same landscape.
Other rivals could include Volvo’s upcoming XC40 Recharge. The expected price for the Volvo is about INR 75 lakh ex-showroom. Furthermore, it would be wrong to exclude EV6’s sibling, the IONIQ 5. Hyundai will launch the IONIQ 5 at the end of the year. However, unlike the Kia, Hyundai will assemble the IONIQ 5 in India. Thus, helping Hyundai price it aggressively. We expect Hyundai to price it around INR 15-20 lakh less than the EV6.
